October has arrived....

The nights here are cool and arid for the most part. We received a blessed shower this afternoon, which lasted for almost half an hour. The water was cold and sweet, and it fell alongside the loose and dying elm leaves, which have begun to populate our backstep.  Five old giants stand like centuries alongside one another, guarding our southern boundary. They are hard on plumbing, and many people despise them, but I can't help but love them. They tower majestically  over our new home. Those leaves are all coming off... one way or another.  I will love these giant elm trees when they are naked and asleep. I look forward to meeting
their vulnerable power with my own this winter. The time of going within approaches.

Took Horus to the park yesterday afternoon to find the pond had been drained. A dozen ducks were crowded into a wallow left behind by the maintenance maneuvers. One day they'll open the valve, and fill the pond first with water from the spring, and then with fishes.  It will be stocked with rainbow trout, from what I understand.  The town of Estancia allows only children and elders to take fish from the pond. They may catch their set limit for free every single day.
